Quincy Buddies Raise
Money for Camperships
Left to right: Jacob DeLeeuw, Ivar Nielson, Alfonso Cornu-Labat, Ryan Lubach, and Sean Prchal |
Five young boys from Quincy, Washington are a lot like nine and ten year-olds everywhere. They’ve grown up together, been classmates, friends at home and at church...four of the five have even been camp-buddies at Lutherhaven the past three or four summers.
Like kids everywhere, they enjoy celebrating their birthdays together, but this year they chose to add a twist to the traditional present-giving: they decided to donate their birthday gifts to a charity of their choice instead of receiving gifts for themselves.
One of the boys, Jacob DeLeeuw, who turned ten in March, decided that his charity would be Camp Lutherhaven...in hopes to share with a boy or girl wanting to go to camp for a week but couldn’t afford to the whole camp fee.
So at Jacob's birthday party, the five guys enjoyed a skate-boarding outing at a Wenatchee skate park, then finished out the afternoon with pizza and cake, (of course!)
"But the best part about the day,” wrote Jacob, “was the $100 we’re donating to Lutherhaven!"
Jacob's Mom, Heidi writes, "Thank you so much for the outreach you work so hard to provide. It is a blessing to all of us, and we'd like to share the benefits of our young boys' thoughtfulness with someone else who can also enjoy a “Christ Centered” camping experience!"

Shoshone Review Nears Completion
March 13: SHOSHONE
Shoshone's fifteen-foot blanket of snow is slowly melting, plans are being made for our best summer yet up the river, and the conveyance of Shoshone Base Camp from U.S. Forest Service hands to Lutherhaven Ministries winds its way thru the federal government's final review process.
Many of the details, details, details required for a federal lands transfer are being worked out between the Forest Service and Lutherhaven, including the final lands survey that doubled the size of the camp's land holdings, wildlife and endangered species reviews, and required environmental impact studies. Final public opinion surveys on the conveyance are also underway.
The federal review of the appraisal, completed March 13, sets the price tag for buying Shoshone's 35 acres and 14 buildings at $705,000.
New! In January the Inland Northwest Community Foundation of Spokane awarded Lutherhaven Ministries $50,000 toward the purchase of Shoshone!
THANKS, INCF!!
Add that to the $150,000 we have from the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation and another $100,000 we have pledged or in hand from individuals, and that makes $300,000 in the bank toward the purchase.
Another major foundation grant toward the Shoshone purchase, this one for $300,000 from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust of Vancouver, WA, is on their docket for an August review.
Still needed: $100,000 to meet the pricetag!
