Volunteers … Now more than ever!
Lutherhaven Ministries would not be where it is today–among the largest and most respected outdoor ministries in the nation–without the faithful time and talent of 75 years of volunteers. Your camps were built through the efforts of thousands of devoted servants of every age!
Volunteers are always needed—all year long—to help make Camp Lutherhaven and Shoshone Mountain Retreat operate successfully. There’s always plenty to do around camp, from day to day upkeep to special projects.
Come by yourself, as a family, a youth or adult group, a Scout troop, or entire congregation and spend a day, weekend, week, or longer serving at Camp Lutherhaven or Shoshone Mountain Retreat.
Contact us for details about volunteering yourself or your group anytime during the year, for any length of time! We often can provide volunteers with meals (when served) and lodging or RV space.
From the journal of a Lutherhaven volunteer, 1946:
“A couple of hours each afternoon were devoted to work. Boys and girls with shovels, spades, rakes, and wheelbarrows leveled the ground. A place was cleared for softball, another area for volleyball. Dead limbs were gathered for evening bonfires on the beach, rocks were hauled to definite places, walks and paths were cleared. There was real co-operation on everyone’s part, and a great deal was accomplished. Oh yes! About the middle of that week a truckload of mattresses arrived. That was a pleasant task, carrying them all to their proper places, and our weary bones rested a bit better that night.”
Lutherhaven + Covid-19 Volunteer Opportunities
As families and communities spread their wings from weeks of stay-at-home, Camp Lutherhaven and Shoshone Mountain Retreat are slowly opening up, too, for a different kind of summer than ever before. We’ve pivoted away from traditional youth camps for a season, and instead are opening for families and church groups to create life-long, Christ-centered memories in the beauty of God’s creation.
In order to conserve vital financial resources in these defining times for all of us, much of our hospitality and programming services this summer will be offered by a dedicated, revolving force of volunteers. All sorts of typically staffed support and programmed activities may have volunteers taking the lead: from ballfield games to belaying the climbing walls, from maintenance and construction to kitchen and housekeeping assistance, and from one-on-one with a special needs child to leading arts and crafts.
Health & Safety our Utmost Concern
Our staff leadership is working closely with our Health Care Team to develop staff, volunteer, and guest health and safety protocols for this summer–in line with guidance from the CDC and our regional health district–including regularly updated standards for social distancing, face masks, and isolating from others with higher risk. For the health of all, individuals and groups from counties with current high occurrences of Covid-19 community spread may not be able to volunteer with Lutherhaven Ministries until a later date.
Cleaning cabins, washing windows, teaching life skills, painting walls, doing dishes, pounding nails, leading hikes, building, fixing, organizing…
…your beautiful camps can use your help, now more than ever!
Pastors and Youth Workers
This summer brings new opportunities for youth, adult, and family groups from local congregations to serve at camp in all sorts of ways. We’d love to have YOU join us! We have 25 years of experience setting up simple, significant, customized servant events for churches like yours. Opportunities range from one day to several days of service, either over-nighting or day-tripping. Volunteering at your camps gives your members the chance to:
- Help your camps in much needed ways, like painting, landscaping, maintenance, light construction, splitting wood, environmental projects, and trail work
- Fellowship with others in appropriate socially distanced ways
- Enjoy time outside in God’s creation
- Study God’s Word
- Learn new skills
- Have fun with fellow church members of every age!
