Lutherhaven Community Outreach!
Did you know? We're bringing monthly youth and children's ministry to ten of your neighboring congregations, plus showing up at a bunch more through the winter and spring, through our new Lutherhaven Community Outreach!

In 2008 Lutherhaven launched this exciting and innovative new outreach designed especially for small and rural congregations around our three-state region: Lutherhaven Community Outreach!
Lutherhaven Community Outreach is funded by a generous two-year grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Vancouver, WA and their Vision & Call Internship Initiative.
The program has two components: Lutherhaven Community Outreach and Build Up! The former sends a pair of talented young adult leaders to congregations each month for children's, youth and family programs. Build Up! is a free, one-night kids, youth, or family event scheduled at churches anytime during the school year.
Ten congregations from Wilbur to Lenore to Kellogg to Hermiston (look 'em up!) are participating in Lutherhaven Community Outreach for the 2010-11 season. Programs include afternoon Kid's Clubs, Youth Nights, Family Events, Service & Outreach Opportunities, and Leadership Training.

How Does Lutherhaven Community Outreach Work?
- Congregations sometimes partner with other churches and organizations in the community to sponsor Lutherhaven Community Outreach as a ministry to their neighbors and community
- The cost of $100 per month for the 9-month program covers gas and vehicle costs, program expenses, and four to five hours of programming each month with two ministry staff
- Congregations provide volunteer support, contributing significant adult mentors to the leadership mix
- Congregations make overnight housing and meals for our two program staff available depending on their location and traveling distance for the team
- Our program staff works with congregations to schedule a specific day each month for the program as well as what type of event best fits the church's needs and community
What Lutherhaven Provides
- Regularly scheduled monthly kids, youth, and/or family programming, September to May
- Four to five hours of programming, typically in the afternoon for one group and evening for another
- Two trained ministry staff
- Program materials
Why Lutherhaven Community Outreach?
- More than half of Lutherhaven's constituent congregations are located in rural communities.
- Typically, half of those living in rural towns across the nation have no church connection.
- So many small town and rural Lutheran congregations throughout our region lack the resources to build the dynamic youth and family ministry they desire.
- Not only does Lutherhaven connect as always with hundreds of kids, youth and families at summer camp and in our summer Day Camp program ... we now build significant year-round connections to kids, families and communities.
- The program opens the door for more and more kids to hear about Jesus, many who've never heard the Gospel before!
