Top Questions from Summer Staff
Do I get paid?
Yes! The average salary ranges from $2,200-$2,600 for the summer + room and board.
What does room and board consist of?
Your room is a bed in one of our fantastic cabins, a cot at one of our villages or lodging at one of our host families for day camp. You may move every week, but you will always have a place to stay. Board is 3 meals a day, including weekends and free snow cones and popcorn in the trading post!
What are the hours worked?
This is a tricky question to answer. The straight numbers answer is that you work 23 hours a day, 6 days a week. The reality of camp is that you are spending time with campers and you are responsible for their well being the entire time they are with you.
So, you may be in the kitchen, hanging out at the cabin, swimming in beautiful Lake Coeur d’Alene, tubing the river at Shoshone, riding horses, worshiping on the beach or in the woods, eating, sleeping, hiking, cleaning bathrooms, singing and more throughout your work time.
The truth of the matter is, you work a lot and you do put in a lot of hours, but the experience is rewarding and life changing. Trust us, the time will fly by!
Do I work weekends?
All staff are contracted to work 2 weekends throughout the summer. Those will be assigned during staff training. This is in addition to the weekend in between the two weeks of staff training.
What’s the weather like?

What does a typical week of camp look like?
Typically, campers arrive on a Sunday afternoon and they leave after lunch on Friday. Weekend guests often arrive on Friday evening and leave after worship on Sunday morning. Your week, depending on your job, could be filled with worship, swimming, tubing, service, games, canoeing, challenge course, dishes, zip lining, rock climbing, eating, cleaning, campfires, bible encounters, singing, hiking, laughing, sleeping, snacking, working, playing, and camping.
What is the faith community like?
At both Lutherhaven and Shoshone, there is a worship service every Sunday morning throughout the summer. These services are open to those at camp and those out in the community. Family and friends are always welcome to join us! In addition to Sunday worship, we have worship every evening with campers and a staff devotion time every morning. Our faith community is centered on the love and grace of Jesus.
Who will I work with?
Depending on your week, you could work with any of the following people: 25-30 staff members onsite at Lutherhaven, either in a counseling role or on support staff/as a lifeguard; 3-4 staff members on a day camp team throughout the Northwest; 5-10 staff members at Shoshone and throughout Shoshone county as a part of Idaho Servant Adventures; 3-4 staff members at Shoshone Creek Ranch (+ the horses, of course – our four-legged staff).
