LUTHERHAVEN MINISTRIES SUMMER STAFF
Thank you for your interest in being part of Lutherhaven Ministries Summer Staff 2008.
Lutherhaven Ministries is Camp Lutherhaven, Shoshone Base Camp and Lutherhaven Day Camps. Our mission is to allow all of God’s people “encounter creation...create community... and commune with Christ.”

CAMP LUTHERHAVEN
Lutherhaven Ministries operates two camp facilities with the majority of Summer Staff opportunities taking place at Camp Lutherhaven. Lutherhaven sits on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene in Northern Idaho in the middle of 60 acres of wooded hillsides. With a great private beach, a homestead mountain village, teepees, tree houses, cabins and lodge space for 200, a 30 element high and low rope challenge course, climbing tower, zip-line, BLOB, and more it is a tremendous place to share the love of Christ.
SHOSHONE BASE CAMP
Shoshone Base Camp is located in the heart of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest near the border of Montana. This site is our base camp for high school servant events, some of our offsite camping adventures, and the central hub for many of our older youth and family camp programs. Shoshone sits on the juncture of the Coeur d' Alene River and Shoshone Creek.
LUTHERHAVEN DAY CAMPS
Each summer Lutherhaven Ministries leads approximately 30 day camps at regional churches in Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon. Teams of 4 counselors are sent from camp to facilitate week long outdoor ministry camp experiences. Through day camps alone, over 1500 youth are served. Day Camp is a huge part of our ministry and our summer counseling experience with most counseling staff leading 2-3 day camps or more! |
PROGRAMS
We offer a variety of programs for campers of all ages. We offer on-site programs for first graders through seniors in High School. The older campers have opportunities to participate in off-site adventure camps. For the elementary aged campers, there are three Outpost Village camps that operate throughout the summer: Treehouse, TeePee, and Homestead Village. There are also a variety of family and adult camps and programs for campers with disabilities. |
POSITIONS AVAILABLE
Lutherhaven Ministries hires approximately 65 college aged and young adult staff. That breaks down to approximately 30 counselors, 3-4 day camp team leaders, 2-3 adventure leaders, 3-4 assistant cooks, 4-6 support staff, 4 lifeguards, a media specialist, a camp medic, a maintenance assistant, a onsite day camp coordinator, a waterfront director, a crafts coordinator, a Junior Staff/Quartermaster Leader, 2 L.I.T. counselors, and other program and support staff positions. APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS

All applicants must have a loving, growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

All applicants must have a willingness to work hard, be flexible, and desire to serve in a variety of ways.

All applicants must be graduated High School seniors, 17 years and older to be on staff. If you will not be a graduated High School senior by summer of 2009 please check out our summer brochure for our L.I.T. program (Leaders-in-Training) and Junior Staff positions. Preference is given to applicants who have a year of post-high school experience.

All summer staff personnel must complete a voluntary background check, provide personal references, and agree to abide by all Lutherhaven Ministries summer staff policies. Some positions require a copy of your driving record.

DATES
Staff starting dates vary according to position. See job descriptions for individual position details. Some positions begin May 27th with the majority of staff positions needing to be at Lutherhaven by May 31. We begin our 14-day staff training on May 31. Staff depart Sunday August 16th. Some variable departure dates are available. Preference will be given to those staff able to complete all 11 weeks of camp. Often there are additional weeks of work available after August 17th and those weeks will be additionally contracted. |
SALARY
Salaries vary from $1800-$2400 depending on position and experience. |

Together with other nationwide Lutheran camps, Lutherhaven Ministries recruits camp staff through a process called Joint Recruitment through National Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Association (NLOMA). Get an application and choose a camp for your first and second choice, or even pick a region of the country you might be interested in working in for the summer. (If you want to apply to Lutherhaven, you simply write Lutherhaven, Idaho on the line that asks what is your first choice of camps.) Together we can help you find a camp that will be a great place to serve for the summer.
We want to encourage you to consider serving at other camps, too! Check out other Lutheran camps through the National Lutheran Outdoors Ministry Association or the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America There is always the possibility that we will get more applications than we can hire and all of our applications go through the joint recruiting process. We appreciate you applying to work here, and we also want to encourage you to think of other possibilities in Outdoor Ministries across the country. |

NOTIFICATION
We begin the interview process in January and the first round of decisions occurs February 26th at Joint Recruitment. BUT IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO APPLY! The earlier you apply the better, but always give us a call to see if we have last minute openings! All applicants interviewed during January and February will be notified around the first week of March of their employment status. |
OTHER JOB OPPORTUNITIES

We have positions open in April/May for our Character Education and Outdoor Education programs. Call the office directly for information regarding spring and fall positions. These positions are paid, with room and board included. |
